Taking Care GO Product FAQs

Does Taking Care GO work indoors?

The Taking Care GO is not recommended if you spend most of your time at home because mobile reception may be limited indoors due to mobile blackspots. You can check coverage by postcode on the Ofcom websiteTaking Care Anywhere is suggested as an alternative and includes the GO pendant with a base unit for the best possible coverage at home.

What is included with my Taking Care GO order?

Your order includes the GO pendant with wireless charger, cable and plug. A user guide is also included.

The GO pendant comes with a hypoallergenic stainless steel chain and a split ring, so you can choose to wear it around your neck or on a key ring or belt.

What is included with the subscription?

The subscription includes 24-hour monitoring by the Emergency Resolution team and a free lifetime warranty and repair service.

The lifetime warranty covers your equipment if it develops a fault or stops working. Taking Care will either repair or replace the equipment for you for free. If the GO pendant alarm battery needs replacing, then they will change that for you too - at no extra cost.

The subscription can be set up by monthly or annual Direct Debit.

Can I wear the GO pendant if I have a pacemaker?

You can, but you must inform Taking Care when you place your order by telephone or by selecting the pacemaker option when ordering online and the fall detection feature will be switched off. You should also not wear the GO pendant around your neck because a mobile device should not be placed near a pacemaker.

You should attach the GO pendant to the supplied split ring, which can be attached to a belt clip or keys, so it is not worn around the neck. The GO pendant must be kept at a minimum distance of 15cm from your pacemaker at all times. If you have any questions or concerns, Taking Care is happy to help. Call 0800 085 8032, Monday to Friday 9am - 6pm, to speak to a Taking Care advisor.

What network does Taking Care GO use?

The GO pendant connects to the strongest available 3G or 4G network.

The 3G network is being gradually phased out over the coming years, with the Government requiring that all 3G networks are switched off by 2033. While the mobile network operators are making changes at different times, you don’t need to worry as your GO pendant is set to "roam" to find the strongest signal that is available for you at that time. It will continue to find the strongest network until the last provider switches off their 3G network. There is therefore no immediate issue and we expect 3G networks will continue to operate successfully for many years to come.

What does the set-up cost include?

The setup cost includes setting up your account with Taking Care and registering you as a customer. You will need to set up the personal alarm yourself. The setup cost does not include any in-person installation assistance.

How do I provide you with the details of my emergency contacts?

Does the GO pendant detect all falls?

The pendant has a sensor that uses an algorithm to recognise the difference between ‘hard’ falls and other movements. Like many similar devices on the market, it cannot guarantee to detect all falls because it is dependent on where it is worn and the amount of shock or impact from the fall. If you fall and are able to press the emergency button then you should do so.

The GO pendant is equipped with sophisticated fall detection technology and will automatically raise an alert for help when it detects a fall, and significant impact has occurred. The pendant is designed to be worn as a pendant openly around the neck for the fall detection algorithm to work as intended. Using, wearing, or attaching the pendant in any other manner may not provide accurate fall detection and could result in a fall not being detected.

Can I make an alarm call from the GO pendant from any location?

As with other GPS personal alarm models, it will work anywhere in the UK, excluding the Channel Islands, where where there is a 3G or 4G mobile network to communicate, subject to atmospheric conditions, radio interference, buildings, or other forms of interference that can block the pendant's connection to GPS satellites. The multi-network SIM is pre-fitted like a mobile phone and provides the best possible coverage.

How does the GPS tracking work?

The GO pendant does not track your location all the time. It will send coordinates of its location when an alarm call is sent. A GPS satellite network must be available for the GO pendant to determine its location. The GO pendant will not work outside of the UK.

GPS technology can be affected by certain atmospheric conditions, radio interference, buildings, or other forms of interference that can block the pendant's connection to GPS satellites. Your location information may not be available if the GPS satellites are unavailable or the GPS signal is blocked. The GO pendant will play a voice message to provide the status of the cellular coverage and inform you when it conducts a GPS location check.

How long does the GO pendant battery last?

The battery will last one to two months with standard use before it needs to be recharged. Voice messages and lights indicate when battery is low, approximately 20% capacity. The low battery is reported automatically to the Emergency Resolution team. It is recommended the pendant’s battery is charged after an emergency activation.

Is the GO pendant water-resistant?

Yes. The GO pendant is water resistant up to 1 metre / 3.3ft for 30 minutes (IP67 standard).

Is the delivery, warranty and repair service free of charge?

Yes. There is free delivery that includes next working day delivery for orders received by 1pm, Monday – Friday to postcodes in England and Wales. For areas of the UK that Taking Care is unable to deliver to within 24 hours, a 48-hour delivery is offered instead.
