Openreach have announced that by 2027 all analogue phone lines will be replaced with digital ones. To ensure personal alarm customers are supported during and after the switchover, Taking Care have tested the full Age Co Personal Alarm product range in Openreach's laboratory with the leading telephone providers' networks including BT, Sky, TalkTalk and others.
"Digital Alarms" are future proof and do not rely on a telephone landline. They will not be affected by the switchover to digital phone lines. All calls and data are included in the subscription.
"Landline Alarms" connect to a traditional telephone landline but have been tested in Openreach's laboratory with the leading telephone providers' digital networks to ensure maximum longevity. However, you may need to pay an upgrade fee if your telephone provider makes a change in the future that affects your alarm. For more information, you can speak with the Taking Care Sales team by calling 0800 085 7371. Lines are open Monday – Friday, 8am - 6pm.
You can find out more about the digital switchover in Taking Care's Resources and Advice hub or on the Openreach website.
How the Personal Alarm Watch works
Unlike in-home personal alarms, a base unit is not needed and you don't need a telephone landline either. It is ready to use out of the box, without any installation or setup.
Get help wherever there is a mobile network. A pre-fitted multi-network SIM is included in the watch that switches between networks to find the strongest signal.
You can speak with Taking Care's 24-hour Emergency Resolution team through the microphone and speaker built into the watch. They will help resolve any emergency, at home or when you are out-and-about.
GPS tracking is accurate to around 10 metres / 32 ft and updated every 5 minutes when moving. The Emergency Resolution team can direct help to your location, even if you are unable to speak.
If you choose to, the watch can automatically alert friends or family when it moves outside of pre-set locations. Taking Care can set up GPS safe zones if you would like this feature enabled.
You can give friends or family access to a secure website to view the GPS device's location coordinates and history. Taking Care can arrange this for you at no extra cost.
The watch has a pedometer that tracks the number of steps you take each day, encouraging you to remain active.
The battery fully charges in 90 minutes and lasts approximately 48 hours. The display status shows the battery level and a magnetic charger is included that locks against the back of the watch so it is easy to charge. We recommend you charge it daily.
A multi-network SIM is pre-fitted so the watch is ready to use out of the box. An easy-to-follow user guide is provided with the watch.
If you have a question, we're happy to help. Call Taking Care on 0800 085 8032, Monday – Friday, 9am – 6pm.

The Personal Alarm Watch uses 2G mobile networks and will work anywhere in the UK where there is a 2G mobile network, except the Channel Islands and Isle of Man. Some people find it reassuring to set up geographic boundaries that trigger an alert to loved ones if the Personal Alarm Watch moves outside of pre-set safe zone locations. Taking Care can set these up for you at no extra charge if you contact Customer Services once you have received your order.
